Chandigarh, Dec 4: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in the disproportionate assets case filed by the vigilance bureau on June 25. Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya passed the order on Majithia’s September 17 application. The detailed order is awaited.

Majithia, arrested on June 25, has told the court that the case is “politically motivated” and that “multiple cases have been filed to keep me behind bars,” according to his plea.

The vigilance bureau has accused him of laundering ₹540 crore in alleged drug proceeds. It filed a 40,000-page chargesheet before a Mohali court on August 22 and opposed bail, saying Majithia may influence witnesses if released.

The DA case is linked to a Punjab Police SIT probe into the 2021 drug case registered against him under the NDPS Act. That FIR was based on a 2018 report of the anti-drug special task force.

Majithia earlier spent over five months in Patiala jail before securing bail from the high court in August 2022. The probe in the 2021 case continues.
