Chandigarh, April 15: The Punjab government has issued approximately 39 lakh Sehat Cards under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY), marking a significant expansion of the state’s flagship health insurance programme. Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh stated on Wednesday that the initiative aims to provide universal cashless medical coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family annually, benefiting nearly three crore residents across the state.

The scheme, which provides access to more than 2,300 medical procedures, is currently operational across a network of over 850 government and empanelled private hospitals in Punjab and Chandigarh. Official data reveals that during the 2026 policy year, over 1.09 lakh beneficiaries have already received treatments totaling nearly ₹340 crore.

“The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana is a major step toward financially protected healthcare, enabling families to access critical and life-saving treatment without upfront costs,” Dr Balbir Singh affirmed. He maintained that the government’s objective is to build a digitally integrated ecosystem where financial constraints do not delay medical intervention.

To ensure seamless access, the state health department is conducting enrollment drives through Suvidha Kendras, CSC Centres, and specialized camps. The Minister noted that the coverage extends to major procedures, including cardiac care, oncology, dialysis, and neonatal services. He asserted that residents should complete their registration promptly to avoid administrative delays during medical emergencies.

The government also clarified that the scheme is a universal programme available to all eligible residents regardless of economic background. Dr Balbir Singh stated that the current model doubles the previous benefit limit from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, reflecting the administration’s commitment to comprehensive public health.
