Heavy Rainfall Brings Relief Across Punjab, Haryana

CHANDIGARH, June 30 —Widespread rainfall brought much-needed relief from the heat across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Monday, with temperatures dipping below normal across the region.

According to the local Meteorological Department, Chandigarh recorded 70.5 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Monday. The showers led to cooler conditions and cloudy skies across the Tricity area.

In Haryana, districts including Yamunanagar, Hisar, Ambala, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Panchkula, and Karnal witnessed intermittent to heavy rainfall. A farmer in Yamunanagar reported that parts of his fields had become waterlogged due to intense downpours.

In Punjab, rain lashed Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Mohali, Gurdaspur, and Ferozepur, affecting normal movement in some areas but also providing respite after days of humid weather.

“The rainfall has pulled temperatures below seasonal averages, offering temporary relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions,” said a Met official in Chandigarh.

The department has forecast continued rainfall across several parts of both states till Tuesday, raising hopes for improved sowing conditions but also prompting concerns over potential waterlogging in low-lying rural areas.
