Manali, 21 February — Heavy snowfall has severed Lahaul Valley’s connection to the rest of Himachal Pradesh, blocking the Manali-Leh highway and leaving locals and travelers stranded.
Officials reported that snow accumulation of up to 60 cm has made the road from the Atal Tunnel’s North Portal to Keylong-Jispa impassable. The Lahaul-Spiti police have issued a travel advisory, urging people to avoid the route until further notice.
“The Border Roads Organisation and the PWD are on standby and will begin clearing operations as soon as weather conditions allow,” said Lahaul-Spiti Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar.
He cautioned against unnecessary travel, especially to high-altitude areas prone to avalanches.
With no vehicular movement permitted on the affected stretch, motorists and tourists have been advised to adjust their travel plans. Officials have urged travelers to stay patient and follow official updates on road conditions.
