CHANDIGARH, APRIL 2: Security agencies evacuated the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday morning following a bomb threat received via email. The Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office received the communication around 6:00 AM, warning of explosives planted within the court complex, prompting an immediate mobilization of emergency services.
The Chandigarh Police, supported by the Bomb Detection Squad and dog squads, launched a comprehensive search operation across the premises. Officials maintained that all court activities were suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, and visitors.
“Upon receiving the information, police and other security agencies were immediately dispatched to the site,” a duty officer stated. He affirmed that entry points were sealed and movement was closely monitored while specialized teams conducted sweeps of the courtrooms and chambers.
The threat follows a low-intensity grenade explosion that occurred outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37 on Wednesday evening. Authorities noted that security has been intensified throughout the city in response to the recent series of incidents.
Preliminary investigations by the cyber cell suggested that the threatening email might have been generated using artificial intelligence tools. Police stated that they are working to trace the IP address of the sender, while reminding the public that similar threats received earlier this year in February were eventually declared hoaxes.
