Chandigarh, March 14: The Punjab and Haryana High Court successfully resolved 225 cases during a National Lok Adalat held on Saturday, resulting in total settlement awards of Rs 9,44,18,296. The exercise, conducted under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority, primarily addressed pending motor accident claim disputes.

The High Court Legal Services Committee organized the event under the guidance of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu. Five specialized benches were established to review a total of 439 cases, achieving a settlement rate of more than 50 percent.

The benches were presided over by Justice Sandeep Moudgil, Justice Sudeepti Sharma, Justice Deepinder Singh Nalwa, Justice Ramesh Kumari, and Justice Ramesh Chander Dimri. Officials stated that the high disposal rate reflects a growing preference for amicable settlements over prolonged litigation.

“Efforts will continue to identify more matters for settlement in future Lok Adalats so that a larger number of disputes can be resolved through this mechanism,” affirmed HCLSC Secretary Swati Sehgal.

Authorities maintained that the Lok Adalat serves as an essential tool for reducing the judicial backlog while providing immediate financial relief to claimants.
