SRIGANGANAGAR — Two state highways were paralyzed for four hours on Friday as farmer organizations staged a sit-in against the Rajasthan government. The protesters alleged a breach of trust regarding the “adequate water” supply promised during the ongoing 36-day shutdown of the Ferozepur Feeder Canal.

The agitation, led by groups including the Gramin Mazdoor Kisan Samiti and the All India Kisan Sabha, saw blockades at the Phoosewala village toll and the Sriganganagar-Padampur road. Leaders asserted that the reconstruction of the feeder canal has left fields dry because the alternative supply through the Gang Canal remains insufficient.

It was stated during the rally that the government had committed to releasing specific volumes of water to sustain local agriculture. Protesters declared that the current receipt of 1,400 cusecs falls significantly short of the 2,100 cusecs originally promised in writing before the canal works commenced.

“The government took no action on our suggestions to prepare the old Bikaner Canal infrastructure,” a representative noted during the sit-in. Although administrative officials and police maintained a presence at the protest sites, the farmers affirmed they would remain vigilant until the water levels at the Khakhan head meet the agreed-upon standards.
