UNA (Himachal Pradesh) April 14: — Former Himachal Pradesh minister and senior BJP leader Virendra Kanwar on Monday alleged he received a ransom call demanding Rs 20–25 lakh, with the caller threatening to kidnap and kill him if the money was not paid.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered based on Kanwar’s complaint, and an investigation is underway.

According to Kanwar, the caller identified himself as “Dharmendra” from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. However, his number displayed the name “Irfan Khan” on the Truecaller app, raising further suspicion.

“I received the threat call demanding a huge sum and was told I would be kidnapped or killed if I didn’t pay,” Kanwar stated.

Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said efforts were being made to identify and track the suspect using digital forensics. “A police team along with the cyber cell is working to trace the location and identity of the accused,” Singh said.

No arrests have been made so far, and police are also examining whether the call is linked to any organized group or individual scam operation.
