Shimla, April 6: Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Saturday said the Himachal Pradesh government is replacing around 1,000 old buses of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) in a phased manner to modernise public transport.
Speaking to mediapersons in Solan, Agnihotri said, “The state government is in the process of purchasing 600 new buses — 350 electric and 250 diesel — keeping in view the state’s geographical conditions. All new buses will be either 37 or 42-seaters.”
He noted that no new buses were procured during the tenure of the previous BJP government.
“We are not only purchasing new buses but also taking innovative steps toward environmental conservation,” he added.
Bringing out efforts to improve last-mile connectivity and passenger comfort, Agnihotri said tempo traveller services will be introduced in suitable areas. “Our Transport Department is committed to providing timely and quality services to the people,” he said.
Senior Congress leaders and officials from the Transport Department were also present at the interaction.
