Guwahati, 5 February 2025: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the redeveloped kerbside at Terminal 1 of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, marking a key infrastructure upgrade in the presence of airport stakeholders.
A statement described the redevelopment as a step toward enhancing passenger safety, security, and overall travel experience. The upgraded kerbside features an expanded passenger movement area of 700 square meters to accommodate rising footfall. The number of departure gates has increased from five to seven, providing 14 entry lanes to streamline passenger flow. Additional entry points and segregated traffic lanes have been introduced, with all access points now FasTag-enabled.
For pedestrian safety, a designated zebra crossing connects the parking area to the terminal, while a traffic-free lane ensures a seamless travel experience. The kerbside also features 24/7 retail and F&B outlets, designed to create an inviting shopping and dining space. A newly introduced moss wall adds a natural aesthetic touch, contributing to a more relaxed terminal atmosphere.
To promote regional culture and tourism, curated video displays showcase Assam’s heritage and the natural beauty of Northeast India. “These visuals will engage travelers while providing a platform to highlight the region’s unique offerings,” a spokesperson said.
With passenger traffic rising, Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) reaffirmed its commitment to secure and convenient travel. “We appreciate the support from the Government of Assam, Airports Authority of India, and airport stakeholders,” the spokesperson added.
GIAL operates under Adani Airport Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises.
