New Delhi, 12 October, 2024: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, in his Vijayadashmi address on Saturday, urged the unification of Hindu society both in India and globally, stating that weakness is a “crime” and that even “Gods do not care for the weak.”

Citing events in Bangladesh, Bhagwat underlined how Hindus, after facing renewed atrocities following a change in leadership, organized for the first time and managed to defend themselves.

He stressed that this situation offers important lessons for Hindus, urging them to unite.

Bhagwat also called on the Indian government and Hindus worldwide to support Bangladeshi Hindus, saying, “As long as radical elements exist, all minorities will remain at risk.”

He added, “Hindus must stay organized and strong, but not violent. Weakness invites atrocities. This mission of social unification will be our focus as the Sangh enters its centenary year.”

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is a major Hindu festival celebrated at the end of the Navaratri festival. It typically falls in September or October and marks the victory of good over evil.

The word “Vijayadashami” combines “Vijaya” (victory) and “Dashami” (the tenth day), signifying the triumph of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the victory of righteousness over wrong.

It also commemorates the victory of the goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.

In many parts of India, large-scale effigies of Ravana are burned to symbolize the defeat of evil, while in other regions, the day is marked with celebrations of Durga’s victory. Vijayadashami holds cultural, religious, and spiritual importance, representing the restoration of peace, harmony, and the end of ignorance and ego.
