New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a review meeting on Monday with Chief Ministers of eight left-wing extremism (LWE)-affected states, days after security forces killed 31 Maoists in Chhattisgarh.
The Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh will attend the meeting, which focuses on tackling the Maoist threat, according to an official statement.
In addition to the Chief Ministers, five Union Ministers, senior officials from Central ministries, the Deputy National Security Advisor, and officers from Central Armed Police Forces will participate.
The meeting aims to accelerate development work in LWE-affected regions, the statement said.
The Union government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shah’s leadership, aims to eliminate LWE by March 2026, providing full support to affected states, it added.
Shah previously chaired a similar review meeting on October 6, 2023, issuing detailed guidelines to combat LWE.
The statement mentioned that due to government strategies, violence related to Maoist insurgency has dropped by 72% and deaths by 86% in 2023 compared to 2010.
“Security forces have achieved notable success in 2024, killing 202 Maoists and securing the surrender of 723 in the first nine months.”
As a result, LWE-affected districts are expected to reduce to 38 by next year. The government has also made progress in improving infrastructure in insurgency-hit areas, completing 14,400 km of roads and installing around 6,000 mobile towers, reads the statement.
