Chandigarh, Aug. 29 – Amid the devastating floods in Hoshiarpur district, an incident in Abdullapur village has drawn widespread attention for its blend of faith, humanity and leadership.
When rising waters of the Beas river submerged the area, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Urmur, Jasvir Singh Raja Gill, led efforts to respectfully relocate the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to safety.
Before moving the saroop from the gurdwara with the help of the sangat, Gill performed an ardaas, praying for peace and well-being of the community.
Reportedly, Videos of the emotional moment quickly went viral on social media, stirring sentiments across Punjab.
“This is a reminder that even in a natural disaster, religious sanctity and the honour of Guru Sahib cannot be compromised,” a villager said.
The episode underscored AAP’s message that saving lives and upholding Sikh traditions go hand in hand.
“Faith and responsibility are inseparable in public service,” Gill noted after the incident.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has accelerated flood relief and rescue operations.
Cabinet ministers and senior officials have been making rounds of affected areas, with the administration working round the clock to restore connectivity and provide aid.
Moreover, Mann, his cabinet colleagues, and all AAP MLAs have announced to donate one month’s salary to the state’s flood relief fund.
“This reflects our emotional connection with the people and our commitment to stand with them in this hour of crisis,” Mann said in a statement.
Fields remain submerged and homes damaged across several districts, but the government has assured that immediate assistance is reaching those affected.
The dual focus on protecting both lives and spiritual values, observers say, has strengthened public trust in the administration.
For many, the Abdullapur incident and the collective relief efforts symbolize a broader lesson.
As one community elder put it, “Politics is not only about power — it is about humanity and faith, the true essence of Rajdharma.”
