Chandigarh, Nov 13: Punjab has witnessed a surge in small-scale industries, with over 10.32 lakh new enterprises registered between March 2022 and March 2025, officials said, reflecting growing investor confidence and a supportive business environment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The surge has brought an estimated ₹24,807 crore in investments, fueling machinery upgrades, factory expansion, and job creation across the state.

“This shows that both local and outside entrepreneurs see Punjab as a secure place to invest,” an official said.

“The growth is not limited to a single sector. Manufacturing has seen 2,57,670 new units, with 2,54,764 classified as Micro industries, largely operating in small towns and villages. The service sector, including shops, computer repair, transport, and hospitality, accounted for 3,51,467 new units, while the trading sector led with 4,23,545 new ventures, 4,17,992 of them Micro businesses.”

Women entrepreneurs have played a pivotal role in this growth. Of the total new industries, 2,55,832 are owned by women, indicating a strong focus on gender-inclusive economic development.

“Empowering women to run businesses is central to our vision of inclusive growth,” said another government official.

In February 2024, it approved the formation of a dedicated MSME Wing to help small industries access loans, technology, and markets, both domestic and international. Officials said the move will sustain growth and make Punjab a long-term hub for micro and small enterprises
