Chandigarh, 10 October 2025: An FIR has been registered against Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor and ten other police officials for allegedly abetting the suicide of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Manisha Chaudhary, who was found dead earlier this week.
Confirming the development, IGP Pushpender Kumar said that the case was filed based on a “final note” purportedly written by the deceased, which mentioned harassment and mental pressure by senior officers. “We have taken cognizance of the note and registered an FIR against those named,” Kumar stated.
The FIR, lodged at the Sector 5 police station in Panchkula, invokes sections related to abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code. According to police sources, the note recovered from Chaudhary’s residence detailed her professional struggles and alleged sustained harassment from some colleagues and superiors.
A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the allegations. Officials said statements of family members and colleagues will be recorded in the coming days. “The investigation will be fair and transparent. No one is above the law,” an officer involved in the case noted.
Chaudhary, a 2005-batch IPS officer, was serving in a senior administrative role in Haryana Police. Her sudden death has triggered shockwaves in the state’s police and administrative circles, prompting demands for a thorough inquiry into workplace stress and accountability in the force.
The body was found at her official residence on Tuesday, following which police recovered the note allegedly written by her. Forensic experts are examining the handwriting and digital evidence to authenticate the document.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered a departmental review into internal grievance redressal mechanisms for police personnel, amid growing concerns over mental health support within the force.
