YAMUNANAGAR, 26 June — Days after the police encounter of wanted gangster Romil Vohra on the Haryana-Delhi border, the Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has begun proceedings to demolish his allegedly illegally constructed house in Ashok Vihar Colony, Yamunanagar.

Vohra, 20, was gunned down early Tuesday in a joint operation by the Haryana Special Task Force and Delhi Police Special Cell. Wanted in nine criminal cases across Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi, Vohra was most recently linked to the murder of liquor contractor Shantanu in Shahabad on June 13 and the December 2023 triple murder outside a gym in Kheri Lakha Singh, reportedly related to a liquor dispute. He was allegedly a member of the Kala Rana–Noni Rana gang and carried a ₹3 lakh bounty announced by the Haryana government.

Following his death, the MCYJ, acting on the instructions of Commissioner Akhil Pilani, issued a demolition notice under Section 261 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, targeting the Ashok Vihar property registered in the name of Vohra’s father, Kapil Vohra.

“The structure was built without any sanctioned building plan and by encroaching on land,” said District Town Planner Manoj Kumar, who added that if the encroachment is not cleared within 15 days, the municipal body will proceed with the demolition.

An inspection by the MC’s building branch found the 54.689-square-yard house, located in Ward 21 on Kansapur Road, to be in violation of building norms. Notices were successively issued on June 3, June 16, and again on Tuesday, with none receiving a response. The property remains unoccupied, and sources confirmed that Kapil Vohra and his wife are currently in jail in connection with criminal cases tied to their son.

“The first notice asked the occupants to appear before the MC office on June 10 with documentation, but no one came forward,” said a spokesperson. The final notice has now been served by pasting it on the house itself — a standard procedure when recipients are untraceable or absent.

The MC’s action follows a similar demolition in June 2024 against the property of notorious criminal Kala Kabadi, marking a growing trend of administrative crackdowns on assets linked to gang networks.

Meanwhile, police said Romil Vohra’s post-mortem is yet to be conducted in Delhi. His body is expected to be brought to Yamunanagar for last rites later this week.
