New Delhi, March 31: The India Meteorological Department issued a city-wide orange alert for Delhi on Tuesday, forecasting a significant weather shift characterized by thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall. According to the latest nowcast from the weather bureau, the alert remained in effect until 5:20 pm, with officials predicting gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km per hour across all districts of the National Capital Territory.
Meteorologists maintained that the current atmospheric instability stems from a western disturbance situated over north Iran and the Caspian Sea, coupled with active cyclonic circulations currently positioned over northwest Rajasthan. These systems have dictated weather patterns across northern India for several days, bringing a temporary end to the recent spell of heat and humidity.
“An orange alert is in place in the national capital till 5:20 pm on Tuesday,” the IMD website affirmed in its latest update.
The shift in weather follows a warm Monday where temperatures climbed to 35 degrees Celsius before light evening showers provided brief relief. Forecasters stated that the capital should prepare for continued variability, as a second western disturbance is projected to approach the region by April 2.
“Very light rain is possible in the national capital on April 3 and 4,” an agency official declared regarding the extended outlook.
