Mohali, Sep 10: A 45-year-old immigration consultant allegedly shot himself dead inside the toilet of an HDFC Bank branch in Sector 68 on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, Rajdeep Singh, originally from Moga, was residing in Sector 80 with his family and maintained an office in Sector 82.
Bank staff present at the branch said Singh arrived around 2 pm and went directly to the restroom, where he reportedly used a pistol to take his life. No suicide note was found at the scene. Authorities have restricted access to the branch while the investigation is ongoing.
The body was sent to the mortuary at Phase-6 Civil Hospital. Police have recovered the firearm and are questioning bank employees, while CCTV footage is being scanned to establish the sequence of events. Investigators are also verifying whether the weapon was licensed.
Phase-8 SHO Satnam Singh said, “It is being probed whether the victim had an account or a running loan from the branch.”
