New Delhi, 19 August — The Opposition’s INDIA bloc on Tuesday announced former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election, scheduled for September 9.

Reddy, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, was finalised as the nominee at a meeting of alliance leaders held at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in the morning.

Kharge, announcing the decision, said Reddy had always upheld constitutional values during his judicial career. “We are proud to put forward a name that reflects integrity and a commitment to the Constitution,” Kharge said.

All Opposition MPs are expected to gather at 1 pm on Wednesday in the Central Hall of the old Parliament building for the formal introduction of the nominee. TMC leader Derek O’Brien said the Aam Aadmi Party is also supporting the choice.

Reddy’s nomination papers will be filed on August 21, party leaders confirmed.
