New Delhi, Feb 20: To strengthen its position as a global electronics hub, India has formally entered the “Pax Silica” strategic technology alliance. The agreement, signed during the AI Impact Summit, aligns India with a US-led coalition that includes the Netherlands, Singapore, and Australia, focusing on secure and innovative silicon supply chains.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw affirmed that joining the initiative will accelerate India’s progress in semiconductor design and energy inputs for AI infrastructure. He declared that the country’s policy continuity has paved the way for economic gains that will benefit the current generation of engineers and tech professionals.
The Pax Silica framework addresses the entire technology stack, from raw materials to data centers. Minister Vaishnaw stated that India’s participation is crucial for building a secure ecosystem that reduces reliance on coercive supply chains. He noted that the partnership will facilitate joint projects and promote co-investment among nations hosting the world’s leading technology firms.
“Pax Silica is important for semiconductor supply chain, manufacturing, and chip design,” the Minister asserted. He further maintained that India is prepared to meet the global demand for technical talent, aiming to train a substantial workforce for the international semiconductor industry.
US officials described the signing as a milestone in building a new economic security architecture. They noted that the inclusion of India, a key member of the Quad, completes a vital link in the coalition-driven order designed for the artificial intelligence era.
