New Delhi, Feb 7: A new economic partnership between India and the United States is set to transform bilateral trade, with India moving to import half a trillion dollars in American products by 2031. The joint framework, which prioritizes innovation and supply chain security, marks a significant shift toward aligning the strategic priorities of the world’s two largest democracies.

Under the agreed terms, the two nations will expand cooperation in critical sectors such as aerospace and energy. India’s import list includes a wide array of advanced technology, ranging from sophisticated electronics to raw materials like coking coal and precious metals required for high-end manufacturing.

“Both sides also agreed to expand trade in technology goods, including graphics processing units (GPUs) and equipment used in data centres,” the joint statement noted regarding the push for digital infrastructure.

The agreement goes beyond simple commerce by establishing a united front on global economic challenges. The framework envisages deep cooperation on export controls and the screening of foreign investments to protect sensitive innovations. This move is designed to mitigate risks posed by non-market practices from external countries that could disrupt global stability.

Officials directly said the agreement reflects a shared effort to align economic and strategic priorities and to strengthen long-term cooperation in critical and emerging sectors. By developing robust digital trade rules, the partnership aims to create a more transparent and efficient environment for tech-driven industries.
