New Delhi, October 17, 2025 — India and Nepal have reiterated their commitment to strengthen defence cooperation and maintain regular defence dialogue, following a bilateral meeting between Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi and Nepal Army’s Lieutenant General Pradeep Jung, ACOAS. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Troop Contributing Countries Chiefs’ Conclave (UNTCC), hosted in New Delhi from October 14 to 16.
The leaders discussed a wide range of topics, including joint training initiatives and collaboration in UN peacekeeping operations, reflecting the enduring partnership between the two neighbouring armies. Sharing details on X, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army noted, “Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to regular defence dialogue and institutional exchanges, reflecting the enduring partnership and shared values between the two neighbouring armies.”
India and Nepal have a long-standing relationship in defence and security, based on mutual trust and respect, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. Both armies have maintained harmonious relations, with extensive cooperation in training, operational preparedness, and peacekeeping contributions.
The UNTCC brought together senior military leadership from over 30 nations to discuss challenges in the evolving global security environment and ways to enhance international cooperation for peace. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Nations realised that for development, growth, and prosperity, peace is essential. India stands firm in upholding a rules-based global order even as some nations violate and undermine international rules. India, as a founding signatory of the UN Charter, reflects the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—‘the world is one family.’”
Earlier during the conclave, COAS General Dwivedi highlighted India’s role as host, saying, “Hosting this conference in India is not only a privilege but also a reaffirmation of our shared determination to strengthen cooperation and carry forward the noble mission of global peace. It reflects the Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbukam and Vishwa Bandhu—India as a friend to all.”
Officials said the meeting with Nepal Army leadership underscores the bilateral focus on enhancing operational synergy, training exchanges, and contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
