Geneva, 27 February — India sharply rebuked Pakistan at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) after it once again raised the Kashmir issue, calling it a “failed state” that thrives on instability and international aid while “dutifully” spreading falsehoods dictated by its military establishment.
Exercising its Right of Reply during the high-level segment of the 58th Regular Session in Geneva, India’s representative, Kshitij Tyagi, dismissed Pakistan’s statements as “baseless and malicious.” He said it was “regrettable, yet unsurprising” that Pakistan’s leaders and delegates continued to peddle misinformation dictated by their military-terrorist complex.
“It is unfortunate that this Council’s time is wasted by a failed state that survives on international handouts,” Tyagi stated. “Its rhetoric reeks of hypocrisy, its actions of inhumanity, and its governance of incompetence.”
Reaffirming that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, remain an integral and inalienable part of India, he pointed to the “unprecedented political, social, and economic progress” in the region as proof of the people’s trust in the government’s efforts to restore normalcy after decades of cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan, he added, had no standing to lecture others on human rights while itself fostering terrorism, persecuting minorities, and eroding democratic values.
“Instead of its unhealthy obsession with India, Pakistan should focus on providing actual governance and justice to its own people,” he remarked.
Tyagi also accused Pakistan of turning the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) into a propaganda tool, stating that India does not engage with such “abuse” of the platform. “We do not wish to dignify such propaganda but are constrained to set the record straight,” he said.
India, he concluded, remains focused on democracy, development, and dignity for all—values Pakistan would do well to learn from.
