NEW DELHI, May 16— To give diplomatic push, the Indian government is set to dispatch multiple multi-party delegations to key global capitals to share its assessment of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and the rationale behind its military response through Operation Sindoor.
Sources confirmed on Friday that the outreach will involve eight teams, each comprising six to seven Members of Parliament, and is scheduled to begin on May 22, returning by June 3 after visiting around five countries in its first leg.
“The aim is to expose Pakistan’s false narrative surrounding terrorism and explain the necessity and execution of Operation Sindoor,” top government sources told media.
.“This is part of India’s evolving policy—to treat every terror strike on its soil as an act of war and respond accordingly.”
India has consistently maintained that Operation Sindoor was a direct retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, which it attributes to Pakistan-based groups.
The delegations are expected to engage not just with foreign political leaderships but also international media, in what officials describe as a proactive effort to “state things as they are.”
Amid criticism from the opposition over the lack of domestic consultation, the Congress party confirmed its participation, despite reservations. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a statement posted on X, acknowledged the invitation and outlined the party’s stance.
“The Prime Minister has refused to chair two all-party meetings on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Nor has he agreed to our demand for a special session of Parliament to show a united front,” Ramesh wrote.
He added, “Now, suddenly, the Prime Minister has decided to send multi-party delegations abroad to explain India’s position. The Indian National Congress always puts national interest first and never politicises security issues the way the BJP does. Therefore, we will take part in the delegations.”
Names for the teams are currently being finalised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs. Sources indicate that Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi are set to join the initiative, with Tharoor likely to lead one of the delegations.
