NEW DELHI, Aug. 27 — Communication channels between India and the United States remain open and efforts are underway to resolve the latest tariff standoff, government sources said on Wednesday, after Washington imposed a 50% levy on Indian exports to America, barring a few sectors.
“The impact is unlikely to be as severe as feared given the diversified nature of Indian exports,” the sources said, while underlining that exporters need not panic. They described the move as “a temporary phase in a long-term relationship” with the US.
The tariff, effective from Wednesday, has raised concerns among trade bodies and exporters. However, officials emphasised that New Delhi and Washington are in constant touch to address the issue through dialogue.
