Chandigarh, 15 January 2025: The Indian women’s cricket team achieved its highest-ever ODI score of 435/5, surpassing their own previous record and overtaking the men’s highest ODI total of 418.
The landmark achievement came in the third ODI against Ireland on Wednesday, with centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal driving India to its first 400+ total in women’s ODIs.
Mandhana and Pratika laid the foundation with a 233-run opening stand, the third-highest partnership for Indian women in ODIs. Pratika smashed 154 runs off 129 balls, hitting 20 fours and one six, while Mandhana scored 135 runs off just 80 deliveries, with 12 boundaries and seven sixes. Their explosive partnership left Ireland struggling to contain the Indian batting lineup.
This new milestone eclipses the Indian men’s highest ODI score of 418/5 against West Indies in 2011, marking a historic moment in Indian cricket. It also propelled India to the fourth-highest ODI score in women’s cricket history, behind only totals by New Zealand, who hold the record with 491/4 against Ireland in 2018.
India’s previous best of 370/5, also against Ireland in the second ODI, stood for just one game as the team broke the 400-run barrier for the first time. With this feat, the Indian women’s team became only the sixth in ODI history to achieve the milestone.
Captain Smriti Mandhana, reflecting on the achievement, said, “It’s a proud moment for Indian women’s cricket. Breaking records feels special, but playing fearless and dominating cricket as a team matters the most.”
India’s aggressive display also included an explosive finish by Richa Ghosh, who played a crucial role in the final overs. With this remarkable win, the team has cemented its dominance against Ireland in the series and in ODI cricket history.
