BATHINDA, June 12 — Kanchan Kumari, a Ludhiana-based social media influencer known online as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, was found dead under suspicious circumstances late Wednesday night inside a parked car near Adesh University at Bhucho Kalan, along the Bathinda–Chandigarh highway.
The 30-something content creator, who had amassed more than 3.83 lakh followers on Instagram, was discovered after local residents alerted police to a foul odour coming from a vehicle that had been stationary for hours. When officers arrived and inspected the car, they recovered Kumari’s body from inside.
“Prima facie, it appears someone abandoned the car here after committing the crime,” said Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh. “The car appears to bear fake registration number plates, and we are seeking verification from transport authorities. The post-mortem report will provide more clarity.”
Authorities have launched a murder investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Investigators suspect the body may have been dumped at the location post-mortem.
The case has raised alarm due to Kumari’s past run-ins with threats. In October last year, she had reportedly received an online threat from Canada-based designated terrorist Arsh Dalla, warning her to stop sharing what he called “inappropriate” videos. Police have not confirmed any direct link between that warning and her death.
“We’re looking at all possible angles, including her online activities and any threats she may have received,” said a senior official associated with the investigation.
As the investigation deepens, police say they are also trying to trace the ownership history of the car and determine where it was last seen before being abandoned.
No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning.
