Amritsar, Feb 8: The Punjab government has secured cashless treatment for 65 lakh families under a revised health insurance framework, providing a safety net of up to ₹10 lakh per household. Officials stated on Saturday that the initiative aims to protect citizens from the financial burden of major medical procedures.

MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal addressed the media in Amritsar, explaining that the current administration has prioritized the infrastructure of both education and health. He noted that the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme has become a vital tool for those who previously lacked access to private medical facilities.

“Strengthening the infrastructure of education and health is the main agenda of the Punjab government,” Dhaliwal said. He explained that the state is investing in these sectors to build a secure future for upcoming generations, moving away from what he described as the neglect of previous decades.

To illustrate the effectiveness of the system, Dhaliwal pointed to the recent recovery of Sulakhan Singh, a labourer whose heart surgery was fully funded by the state. The MLA mentioned that the patient’s card was prepared within 24 hours to facilitate the urgent operation.

He urged the public to enroll in the program to ensure they are covered for future emergencies. “Hospitals are being regularly monitored to ensure that no patient faces any kind of inconvenience and that no hospital can demand any additional payment from cardholders,” Dhaliwal said.

The spokesperson noted that the opposition has found it difficult to accept these changes after neglecting basic facilities for years. He added that the government remains committed to fulfilling promises made to the public through practical, ground-level implementation.
