Shimla, Feb 27: Shimla Police in a coordinated operation with Punjab authorities, have arrested Hardeep Singh, a suspected drug trafficking kingpin based in Ferozepur. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in an ongoing investigation into an interstate narcotics network that allegedly utilized digital masking and virtual communication to supply heroin across state lines.
The investigation began on February 2 following the arrest of two individuals in Rohru, which eventually led to the apprehension of Jashandeep Singh, who was found in possession of 83 grams of heroin. ASP Abhishek Dhiman stated that subsequent inquiries revealed a sophisticated distribution chain. Analysis of communication records showed that Hardeep Singh managed the syndicate using a WhatsApp virtual number to coordinate with local peddlers and suppliers.
Financial scrutiny played a critical role in identifying the leadership of the network. Police officials affirmed that bank transactions totaling ₹18 lakh were initially linked to Jashandeep’s local operations. Further deep-dive analysis into the kingpin’s accounts revealed approximately ₹28 lakh in transactions over the last seven months, which investigators asserted were payments made for the procurement and distribution of heroin.
To date, seven individuals have been taken into custody as part of this crackdown. Authorities declared that the network relied heavily on encrypted messaging to evade detection while moving contraband from Punjab into Himachal Pradesh. The Shimla Police noted that the investigation remains active as they continue to trace the broader financial and logistical footprint of the syndicate.
