May 11: IPL 2025: Josh Hazlewood was using the IPL as a platform to get back into rhythm after undergoing a hard rehabilitation earlier this year to recuperate from a series of problems, including a calf issue and a side strain.
Cricket Australia’s Cautious Approach
Despite his advancements, Cricket Australia is expected to exercise caution. His selection in the Test team seems almost certain, and a return to the IPL may not be necessary, given that a pre-WTC final conditioning camp is scheduled for England in early June.
Uncertainty Surrounding Australian Players
Hazlewood’s participation in the IPL is not the only Australian cricketer in doubt. Travis Head and Pat Cummins, whose Sunrisers Hyderabad squad is already eliminated from playoff contention, may choose to remain in Australia to prepare for the WTC final at Lord’s beginning on June 11. Playing for the fifth-place Delhi Capitals, Mitchell Starc faces a more difficult choice between national duty and team obligations.
The logistical difficulty of repatriating foreign players and support personnel who departed India within 24 hours of the suspension adds to the uncertainty.
Cricket South Africa’s Pending Decision
Cricket South Africa has not yet determined whether its players may stay beyond the May 25 NOC deadline, while most of the New Zealand team has already returned home. Player safety remains the top priority, and the CSA board is expected to discuss this on Sunday.
The disruption has presented challenges as well as benefits for teams like RCB. Rajat Patidar, the captain, was expected to miss two games after suffering a finger injury while fielding against CSK. However, the unplanned hiatus offers him valuable time for recovery. With a cautious approach to rehabilitation, RCB hopes to be fully prepared for the playoffs and the forthcoming India-England tour.
