Iran Vows Response to U.S. Strikes

Tehran, June 22: Iran’s top diplomat warned Sunday that the United States’ airstrikes on the country’s nuclear facilities will not go unanswered, declaring that Tehran reserves “all options” to defend itself in the wake of the escalating conflict.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in the first high-level reaction from Iran’s leadership, condemned the U.S. bombing of Isfahan, Fordow and Natanz as an act of aggression with far-reaching implications. “The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences,” Araghchi posted on X, formerly Twitter.

He continued, “In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions allowing a legitimate response in self-defence, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interests and people.”

The statement follows a wave of airstrikes announced Saturday by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who confirmed that American stealth bombers had targeted three fortified Iranian nuclear sites in coordination with Israel. Trump described the operation as a “very successful attack,” noting that the primary strike was carried out at the Fordow facility using a full payload of bombs.

The move has sparked fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East. Iran has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, accusing the U.S. of violating international law and launching “unprovoked and premeditated” attacks.

Iran’s condemnation now extends from its ambassador to the UN to its highest diplomatic office, signaling the likelihood of a coordinated response. Though the nature of that response remains unclear, Araghchi’s language suggests Iran is considering both diplomatic and military options.

As tensions rise, observers warn that retaliation could come through proxy forces across the region or direct confrontation, with global implications for energy markets and security alliances. The situation remains fluid, and world leaders are closely monitoring for Iran’s next move.
