Chandigarh, August 16: Indo-Tibetan Border Police Deputy Inspector General Parminder Singh and his driver lost their lives when their vehicle lost control, jumped the road divider, and crashed into an oncoming car in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district, officials stated. The severe head-on collision occurred around 11 am on the Dehradun-Panchkula National Highway within the jurisdiction of the Sarsawa police station.
The deceased officer, 52-year-old DIG Parminder Singh, hailed from Ropar in Punjab and was posted in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. He was returning to Ambala in Haryana following the completion of a training program in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. His driver, Ramsharan, aged 35, also succumbed to injuries, while his security gunner Jayram, 38, sustained critical condition.
Police personnel and emergency teams rushed to the spot immediately after the crash to transport the victims to the government medical college in Pilkhani.
“The Scorpio carrying the DIG and his two aides lost control, collided with the road divider and was flung into the opposite lane, where it crashed into the oncoming car,” stated Saharanpur Senior Superintendent of Police Abhinandan Singh. He added that doctors declared the DIG and his driver dead on arrival at the hospital.
Three occupants inside the incoming car—identified as Gurunanak Singh, Devendra Kaur, and Gurnam Singh—were also injured in the impact and are undergoing medical treatment at the Pilkhani facility.
Saharanpur District Magistrate Arvind Chauhan and SSP Abhinandan Singh visited the hospital to assess the situation and ensure prompt medical aid. Legal proceedings and post-mortem formalities have been initiated by the local authorities.
