Kurukshetra, May 23: Jagdish Singh Jhinda was elected president of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) on Friday, in a session marred by protests from rival factions demanding a secret ballot.
The election, held at Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi, saw 48 of 49 members participate. Jhinda claimed majority support and was elected by a show of hands, prompting Akal Panthak Morcha and Sikh Samaj Sanstha leaders to stage a walkout, alleging rules were violated.
Jhinda later announced a new 11-member executive, vowing transparency and unity. Meanwhile, the opposition group led by Harmanpreet Singh announced plans to challenge the appointment in court and before the HSGMC Judicial Commission.
