Jagjit Singh Dallewal Shifted to Patiala Private Hospital

Patiala, March 23 — Police have discreetly shifted fasting farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal to a private hospital in Patiala, surprising many, including union members. Dallewal, whose fast entered its 118th day on Sunday, was previously held under tight security at the PWD rest house in Jalandhar Cantonment.

The decision to move him back to Patiala is raising eyebrows, as the city was the epicentre of the farmers’ agitation, with national highways near Shambhu and Khanauri blocked during the protests. Sources revealed that the government decided late Saturday evening to transfer Dallewal to the Patiala hospital, which is reportedly managed by a former Punjab Police officer.

Dallewal was shifted to Jalandhar following a late-night police crackdown on March 19, during which he was detained in Mohali and taken to multiple locations.

Officials had kept him in Jalandhar, an area with negligible union presence, to prevent farmers from reaching him.

The surprise return to Patiala has encouraged union members, who now believe they will be able to access their leader.

Meanwhile, no senior police official has commented on the development.
