Kapurthala, June 17 – The body of Sonam Tiwari (39), daughter-in-law of well-known Jalandhar industrialist Naresh Tiwari, was recovered from the Beas River near Goindwal Sahib on Monday, two days after she went missing.

According to police, Sonam had gone to the river on Saturday evening with a friend to perform an “upaay” (ritual cure) after being diagnosed with a brain cyst. While the friend waited near their vehicle, Sonam walked alone to the riverbank and reportedly jumped into the river, overwhelmed by mental stress.

Her disappearance triggered a large-scale search, with family members also seeking help on social media. A team of divers found her body between 2 and 3 pm on Monday.

SHO Arjun Singh of Talwandi Chaudhrian police station said proceedings have been initiated under Section 174 of the IPC (now BNS 208). The postmortem will be conducted on Tuesday at the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala.

Sonam’s brother-in-law Navdeep Tiwari confirmed she had been in acute mental distress due to her medical condition. Police said no foul play is suspected, and no charges have been filed by either side of the family.
