Jasvir Singh Garhi stepped down from his constitutional position as Chairman of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission after being named as the Aam Aadmi Party’s constituency in-charge for Chamkaur Sahib. Garhi confirmed today that he tendered his official resignation on August twenty-sixth, prior to accepting his new organizational role within the party.
The clarification follows questions raised by opposition leaders regarding the dual holding of a constitutional post and a political party assignment.
Constituency in-charge Jasvir Singh Garhi declared that he submitted his resignation before taking up political duties, asserting that the party leadership allocated the new responsibility only after he relinquished his commission post.
Jasvir Singh Garhi had served as the Commission Chairman since his appointment on March seventh, 2025.
During his tenure as commission head, Garhi frequently remained at the center of political discussions after issuing notices and summons to several prominent leaders across opposition parties. His actions included summoning senior political figures over controversial public remarks and conducting field inquiries following incidents involving municipal sanitation workers in Barnala.
Garhi maintained that his immediate priority focuses on building organizational strength across villages and booths in Chamkaur Sahib to prepare the party for upcoming electoral cycles.
