Jaswinder Bhalla dies at 70 in Mohali hospital

MOHALI, Aug. 22 — Jaswinder Bhalla, one of Punjabi cinema’s most celebrated comedians and actors, died early Friday at the age of 70 while undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in Mohali.

Hospital officials confirmed that Bhalla, who had been unwell for some time, passed away in the early hours. His family announced that the final rites will be held Saturday at noon at Balongi Cremation Ground in Mohali.

Bhalla was widely regarded as a cornerstone of Punjabi entertainment, known for his sharp comedic timing, memorable stage performances, and characters that blended humor with social commentary. His career spanned several decades, during which he became a household name and endeared himself to millions of admirers.

“Jaswinder Bhalla was more than an actor—he was a voice of our times, bringing both laughter and reflection through his performances,” said a fellow actor reacting to the news.
