Srinagar, Apr 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar on Monday evening as part of his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
He was received at the Srinagar International Airport by Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and other senior officials.
Sources said that from Srinagar Airport Shah will proceed directly towards the residence of martyred DySP Humayun Muzammil Bhat in Humhama to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
DySP Humayun was among four officers martyred during an encounter with terrorists in South Kashmir’s Kokernag on September 13, 2023.
Officials said the Home Minister will also chair a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar.
Shah is likely to focus on the status of ongoing developmental projects and centrally sponsored schemes in the Union Territory.
Sources added that Shah is also expected to meet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his Srinagar visit.
Earlier on Sunday, Shah held a closed-door meeting with BJP legislators and office-bearers in Jammu, focusing on organisational matters and preparedness for the upcoming elections.
This is Shah’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government.
Meets Family of Slain DSP Humayun Muzamil in Srinagar
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday visited the residence of martyred DySP Humayun Muzamil Bhat at Humhama to offer condolences to the bereaved family, after reaching Srinagar.
Humayun was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in South Kashmir’s Kokernag on September 13, 2023.
Details available with news agency JKNS stated that Shah interacted with the family, paid floral tributes to the fallen officer, and praised his sacrifice in the line of duty.
He was Accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other senior officials.
Soon after, Shah proceeded to Raj Bhawan for high-level meetings on the security and developmental scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, Srinagar witnessed heightened security arrangements ahead of Shah’s movements. Multi-tier deployment was put in place, with checkpoints established across the city, intense frisking of vehicles and pedestrians, and drone surveillance carried out as a precautionary measure.
This is Amit Shah’s first visit to the Union Territory following the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led government.
Shah is expected to meet the Chief Minister and review key issues concerning the region.
