J&K CM Swears on Holy Quran Against BJP Alliance

Srinagar, Nov 10: After BJP’s Sunil Sharma accused J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of seeking an alliance with the party for statehood in 2024, Omar swore on the Holy Quran, denying the charge and saying he never sought any tie-up with the BJP.

Reacting sharply to Sharma’s remarks, made during BJP’s Budgam campaign event, Omar wrote on X, “I swear on the Holy Quran that I didn’t seek an alliance with the BJP in 2024 for statehood or for any other reason. Unlike Sunil Sharma, I don’t tell lies for a living.”

Sharma had dared the Chief Minister to take the oath, claiming Omar had made backchannel attempts to ally with the BJP. The exchange triggered a renewed political slugfest ahead of the Budgam Assembly bypolls.

PDP MLA from Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra then joined the row, urging Omar to “also swear for 2014,” referring to past claims of similar outreach. In response, NC spokesman Imran Nabi Dar hit back, asking Parra to swear that PDP MLAs had not voted for the BJP or cancelled votes in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.
