Kaithal, March 22: Police in Kaithal have apprehended a local man, identified as Arun, in connection with the strangulation death of his wife, Shalu. The arrest followed a prompt investigation by a joint team led by CIA-1 in-charge Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh and City Police Inspector Vedpal.
The victim’s family, originally from Maur Mandi in Punjab’s Bathinda district, stated that the couple married in 2018. According to a police spokesperson, a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Sunita, alleged that Arun had struggled with substance abuse and had a history of assaulting his wife. These issues frequently forced Shalu to seek refuge at her parental home.
The situation escalated after Shalu returned to Kaithal on March 13. On the day of the incident, the victim reportedly contacted her mother to report further harassment. The following day, Arun himself contacted the family and declared that he had killed her. Upon arriving at the residence on Franswala Road, the family discovered her body.
During preliminary questioning, the accused admitted to being intoxicated at the time of the crime. Authorities noted that a heated argument over his addiction and suspicions regarding his wife’s character preceded the fatal act.
“The accused confessed that he had returned home intoxicated on the day of the incident,” a police spokesperson stated. He further affirmed that the suspect strangled his wife in a fit of rage during the domestic dispute.
