Kapurthala, July 25: A 28-year-old man from Rapurpeer Baksh village near Bhulath in Kapurthala district has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in a lake in Winnipeg, Canada. The deceased, Davinder Singh, had moved to Canada nearly eight years ago on a student visa and was working part-time while pursuing his studies.

According to family sources, Davinder was the sole breadwinner for his mother Gurmeet Kaur and his grandmother. His father passed away nearly two decades ago.

Gurmeet Kaur last spoke to her son on July 16, when he told her he was getting ready for work. However, on July 22, the family received a call informing them of his death. Canadian authorities later confirmed that his body had been recovered from a lake in Winnipeg.

“My son was healthy, happy, and responsible. We believe this is not a simple case of drowning. He was murdered and his body dumped into the lake,” said Gurmeet Kaur.

A family friend echoed her concerns. “Davinder was a good boy from a respectable family. We want the truth behind his death to come out,” he said.

The family has appealed to the Government of India and the Indian Consulate in Canada to intervene and ensure a thorough, fair, and impartial investigation.

The exact circumstances surrounding Davinder’s death remain unclear, and the family continues to wait for answers as they prepare for the repatriation of his body.
