KARNAL, Jan 10 – Police have solved a high-stakes robbery involving ₹1.75 crore in just four days, arresting four men including two “insiders” who allegedly orchestrated the heist.
Authorities recovered 1.240 kg of gold, ₹2 lakh in cash, and the scooter used during the crime. The breakthrough came after a joint operation by CIA-1 and CIA-3 units following a targeted ambush on gold artisans earlier this week.
“Our teams worked on every technical lead to nab the suspects from Karnal and Ambala,” DSP Rajiv Kumar said during a press briefing on Friday. “Two of the accused, Dinesh and Prince, were working at a jewelry shop in the Sarafa Bazar and used their internal knowledge to plan the robbery.”
The incident occurred on the night of January 3, when gold smelter Baban Govind Mani and his brother-in-law were intercepted near the Sector-16 community centre. The victims were carrying gold and cash from their workshop when a group of unidentified men overpowered them.
The arrested individuals are Prince and Dinesh of Karnal, alongside Parveen Kumar and Prateek from Ambala. While Dinesh has been sent to judicial custody, the other three remain in police remand for further questioning.
“The investigation shows the suspects conspired to intercept the victims at a vulnerable spot after they finished their workday,” DSP Kumar added.
