Bengaluru, Jan 20: The Karnataka government has ordered the immediate suspension of K. Ramachandran Rao, Director General of Police (Civil Rights Enforcement), after videos allegedly showing him in compromising positions inside his office went viral. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) issued the suspension order following the widespread broadcast of the footage across news channels and social media platforms.

Official documents state that the conduct depicted in the recordings was “obscene in nature” and fundamentally unbecoming of a high-ranking government servant. The state government noted that the visuals, which reportedly show the officer in uniform engaging in intimate acts within his official chamber, have caused significant embarrassment to the administration.

The suspension was enacted under the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, as the state found prima facie evidence of a violation of professional conduct standards. During this period, Rao is prohibited from leaving his headquarters without written authorization and will receive a standard subsistence allowance.

The videos in question include scenes where the officer is purportedly seen with a woman in front of the Indian flag and the police department’s official emblem. Despite the visual evidence cited by the state, the DGP has denied all accusations.

Rao directly said the clips were “fabricated and false” in an attempt to dismiss the allegations.

The controversy comes at a difficult time for the officer, whose stepdaughter, Ranya Rao, is currently in custody at Bengaluru Central Jail in connection with a gold smuggling investigation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah mentioned that the government would not hesitate to take further disciplinary steps if the inquiry confirms the officer’s guilt.
