Chandigarh, Dec 10: Former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday dismissed the legal notice sent to her by Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, calling the charges “baseless” and asserting that she stands by every remark she made.
Kaur said she would initiate legal proceedings if Randhawa failed to withdraw the notice. “My statements fall under my right to freedom of speech, and they are based on media reports already in the public domain,” she said.
Randhawa, who also handles the Congress’ organisational affairs in Rajasthan, issued a legal notice on Tuesday demanding an apology for what he called defamatory allegations. According to the notice, Kaur accused him on December 7 and 8 of taking money in exchange for distributing party tickets. The MP from Gurdaspur said the accusations were made “without any evidence” and were intended to damage his reputation.
The notice invokes defamation provisions under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and asks Kaur to issue a written apology within seven days in the same media outlets that carried her comments.
The dispute comes days after the Punjab Congress suspended Kaur from primary membership over her “500-crore cash-for-CM” claim. Party leaders have since intensified their pushback, escalating the legal battle brewing inside the state unit.
