Kochi, April 1: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday refused to stay the screening of L2: Empuraan, rejecting a petition by former BJP Thrissur district committee member Vijeesh Vettam, who alleged the film promotes anti-nationalism and religious hatred.
A BJP media release confirmed Vettam’s suspension from the party’s primary membership, stating disciplinary action was taken after he approached the court. His petition named the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Film Certification Board, Team Empuraan, and the State police chief as respondents.
Vettam, however, maintained that his legal challenge was a personal decision. “The film promotes communal polarization for financial gain, compelling grassroots workers like me to intervene,” he mentioned, adding that he would continue with legal proceedings despite the party’s action.
BJP Thrissur district president Justin Jacob said Vettam filed the petition as a district committee member, leading to his suspension. “The party will take strict action against those acting against its policies,” Jacob added, noting further reviews would follow.
