Chandigarh, 18 November 2024: Sunil Khanna, 62, emerged as the new president of Chandigarh Club in Sector 1 after winning elections held yesterday. Results announced today showed Khanna defeating his closest competitor, Naresh Chaudhary, by 128 votes.

Khanna secured 1,623 votes, while Chaudhary received 1,495. A third contender, Ramneet Singh Chahal, garnered just 104 votes. Khanna, known for his association with outgoing president Sandeep Sahni, is set to lead the club for a three-year term.

Anurag Aggarwal, 54, claimed the vice-presidential position with 1,129 votes, narrowly edging out rival Karan Vir Nanda, who obtained 1,110 votes. The third candidate, Anurag Chopra, finished with 973 votes.

Out of 7,441 eligible members, 3,292 cast their votes, marking a significant turnout. This election marked the club’s first in eight years, following legal disputes and delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous council was elected in 2016 but faced a prolonged term due to these disruptions.

With the new governing body in place, the Chandigarh Club looks ahead to a fresh leadership term under Khanna and Aggarwal’s guidance.
