Despite captain Ajinkya Rahane’s half-century and Rinku Singh’s brilliant batting, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a four-run defeat in the match against Lucknow Super Giants. Batting first, Lucknow scored 238 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. In response, the KKR team could score only 234 runs for seven wickets in the stipulated over. Rahane scored 61 runs off 35 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes, while Rinku scored an unbeaten 38 off 15 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.
KKR’s Chase Falters as Shardul Strikes
Chasing the target, KKR lost the early wicket of Quinton de Kock who was dismissed for 15 runs. After this, Sunil Narine and Rahane shared 50+ runs for the second wicket. However, Digvesh Rathi broke this partnership by dismissing Narine. Narine returned to the pavilion after scoring 30 runs off 13 balls with four fours and two sixes. Rahane did not stop even after this and completed his half century in 26 balls. When Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer were batting, it looked like KKR might achieve this huge target, but Shardul gave KKR a big blow by dismissing Rahane.
Thrilling Finish
After Rahane’s dismissal, KKR’s innings faltered and lost the wickets of Ramandeep (1), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (5),Venkatesh Iyer (45) and Andre Russell (7). It looked difficult for KKR to achieve the target after that, but Rinku made a splash in the final overs. KKR needed 24 runs to win in the last over, but the team could only score 20 runs. In this way, Lucknow won this match in its own name. Harshit Rana returned unbeaten with 10 runs for KKR. For Lucknow, Akash Deep and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each, while Avesh Khan, Digvesh Rathi and Ravi Bishnoi got one wicket each.
