CHANDIGARH/S.A.S. NAGAR, July 12 — MLA Kulwant Singh officially assumed charge as Secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) on Saturday following the unanimous election of new office-bearers at Mullapur. Amarjit Mehta was elected President, Deepak Bali as Vice President, and Sunil Gupta as Treasurer.

The election process, overseen by the PCA Election Officer, concluded smoothly with all key positions filled without contest. Addressing the gathering after taking charge, Kulwant Singh expressed gratitude to the PCA committee and pledged to fulfil his duties with commitment. “I thank the election officer and all members who ensured this process was conducted with consensus and transparency,” he said.

Singh, who represents the Mohali constituency in the Punjab Assembly, said the Association will focus on nurturing young and emerging talent. “We will work together to take Punjab cricket to new heights. Our villages and localities are full of passion for sports — from cricket to kabaddi and hockey. We want to channel that energy to build the next generation of champions,” he said.

He stressed the importance of grassroots tournaments and local engagement in strengthening the state’s sports culture. “Sports events in Punjab aren’t just urban affairs; they’re celebrated in every lane and village. Our effort will be to identify and support this raw talent,” he added.

Singh also credited the current state government for prioritising sports development. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab is investing in sports like never before. I am confident that Punjab will soon shine not only at the national level but also on international platforms,” he said.

The newly elected PCA team is expected to set in motion a renewed agenda focusing on infrastructure development, talent scouting, and performance-driven training across districts.
