Patiala, 10 January 2025 – On Friday, Kundan Gogia, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor, was elected as the first-ever AAP mayor of Patiala Municipal Corporation. This marks a significant victory for the party, which secured 43 of the 60 seats in the municipal elections held on December 21.
The elections, contested across 45 seats, saw eight uncontested victories for AAP, further bolstering its success. Polling in seven wards was postponed due to a Punjab and Haryana High Court intervention.
With Gogia’s election, AAP strengthens its grip on Patiala politics. BJP and Congress followed with four seats each, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) captured two.
Gogia’s election also led to key appointments within the party, with Harinder Singh Kohli from Ward 28 named Senior Deputy Mayor and Jagdeep Singh Jagga elected Deputy Mayor.
“We will work towards transforming Patiala into a model city,” Gogia stated following his election.
