Landslide Hits Kullu House, Two Feared Trapped

Kullu, Sept. 3: A late-night landslide struck a residential area in inner Akhara Bazaar in Kullu district, damaging a house and leaving two people feared trapped under the debris, officials said Wednesday.

The incident occurred around midnight amid continuous rainfall that has battered the region for several days, increasing the risk of slope failures and flash floods. Local sources reported that the landslide hit the house suddenly, catching its occupants off guard. One resident narrowly escaped by leaping out of a window moments before the structure collapsed.

“It happened so fast—everything started shaking, and before we knew it, the wall came crashing down,” a local resident said.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, with teams from the district administration and emergency services reaching the site. Despite efforts through the night, the two missing individuals had not been located at the time of filing this report.

Officials said ongoing heavy rainfall and unstable terrain were hampering the rescue operation, making it difficult for teams to safely clear debris amid fears of additional slides. The area has been cordoned off, and nearby residents have been advised to evacuate as a precaution.

Authorities also urged people living in landslide-prone zones to remain alert and follow official safety advisories. “Residents should avoid venturing near unstable slopes and follow instructions from local authorities,” an official noted.

Rescue teams continue to work under challenging conditions, and further updates are awaited as efforts to locate the missing individuals proceed.
